NEW PICKS COLLEGE PRO 9-30/ 10-1

The journey to evade mediocrity continues. I was 3-3 last week, 9 -10-1 overall...

                                                                              CFB
                                                        $$Ohio State vs. Rutgers

We are going with a gimme, if my buckeyes screw this up I'll be pissed.

                                                             Clemson Vs. Va Tech$$
Virginia Tech will find a way. Watch out for their special teams unit
                                             to aid in the victory.

                                                             Miss St. Vs. Auburn$$

Mississippi State has a tough defense so do the Tigers...
"War eagle" Tigers in a close one.

                                                                             NFL
                                                             Redskins Vs. Chiefs$$
So far the best offensive scheme in football belong to the Chiefs.
Travis Kelce has gone from the number 1 option to the 3rd option
which is why you see the improvement of Alex Smith. Chiefs win.

                                                                $$Browns Vs. Bengals
I'm from Cleveland. No other logic involved Browns win!

                                                                 Minnesota Vs. Detroit$$
If you ask me the Motor City kiddies are really undefeated.
No luck to aid Minnesota the Lions win with balanced play                                                                     and an underrated coach.

The great distraction

KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE HOLD ON!!

I'm sure you seen and heard there are a multiplicity of protests in our society these days. The most attention has been garnered by the NFL players and the kneeling. locking arms, etc... due to police brutality, unfair human rights, and things of that nature.
I am in favor if these protests but only to a point. There has to be a plan put in place to discuss the issues with people who can make real changes. The people who marched in the era of The Civil Rights Movement eventually had to have a plan to create real change. (boycotting for example)
Amazingly our Commander and Chief has gotten involved and has tweeted out disrespectful words that have cut some of the NFL and NBA players deep. Of course these "deep cuts" in turn has created responses from high profile athletes.
Yes our Commander and Chief: guilty of collusion with Russia, Sedition,Treason, is a Bigot, Misogynist, an Immature, amateur, unfit President.  People he has hired in his cabinet have been fired like a revolving door. {reminds you of how people are eliminated in reality shows}
A man who has no obligation to truth and behaves as a dictator, threatening to abolish our Democracy as we know it.
He ain't dumb though!
The President knows he is in over his head with this new job. There are multiple investigations in place to position for impeachment hearings. According to CNN, Russia bought advertisements for the purpose of instigating racial tensions in Ferguson and Baltimore.
He tweets these random verbal attacks to stop us from looking at The Russia investigation.
He calls others unpatriotic for the purpose of distraction.
What is more unpatriotic than treason? What is more unpatriotic than a President colluding with another country and according to congresswoman Maxine Waters, for the purpose of getting to our oil reserve for the purpose of money.  Lest we forget Putin runs Russia as a dictator...(game recognizes game)The Steph Curry snatched back invite to the White House is an example of yet again an attempt to take the public's eyes off his vastly dangerously inept administration.
The same is taking place with these protests. The real issues of human rights, bigotry, police brutality and so forth are under the guise of distraction thanks in part to the President.
THIS AIN'T BOUT NO FLAG!!
I'm inclined to believe most of us love America but dislike police brutality.
The movement is muddled by people who are prostituting the flag as a whore to render political commerce. The movement is being shaded by the sacred cow that is our National Anthem.
When you break down the lyrics of The National Anthem the song is about the flag representing America in war times and times of peace. Why are most wars fought? Wars are fought for land and money. Obviously the self-defense of the country as well but when was the last time we were invaded?  I contend September 11th was an inside job sorry folks.
I say all this to say let's stand for the real issues. Let's not protest for the sake of protesting.
We must create a plan to sit with lawmakers and politicians who can create tangible change.
We cannot make the mistake of being a watchdog who barks at other watchdogs while the burglar is robbing our house.
We have to interrogate  the police regarding their training practises.
There has to be real heartfelt conversations about race.
Due to the dangerously inept sitting President who is himself is unpatriotic the call for impeachment of this unfit President has to be LOUDER AND LOUDER AND MORE CONCISE!

This week's picks

                                                                        Big 3 picks

OK!
My picks epitomize mediocrity last week.
3 and 3 on my pro and college picks and the Canelo & GGG fight was a draw. Many disagree with that result. Well, as the saying goes this is a marathon not a sprint so shall I run on.

                                                                       NFL
                                        $$Oakland Vs. Washington
The Raiders and Marshawn Lynch keep on dancing as they win @ D.C. Everything is clicking, the quarterback is making music videos they are having fun as a team. More importantly Crabtree has emerged as another important weapon for Carr.

                                            $$Atlanta Vs. Detroit
The Falcons are the class of the NFC. Too many weapons even without Vic Beasley the offense will make up for it and explode @ some point Falcons win.

                                                Denver Vs. Buffalo$$
The Bills are 9-4 in their last 13 home games. They are just better @ home so is Denver, the Broncos burned me last week with my pick of the Cowboys. I will ride with The Bills @ home.

                                                                CFB

                                                         Mississippi State Vs. Georgia$$
I just have faith in the athletes Georgia puts out there. They have a tough defense to face, MS is coming off a smashing of LSU. I still go with the Georgia Dawgs in a close one.

                                                          TCU Vs. Oklahoma State $$
Oklahoma State pulls away with a high scoring offense, quality college QB and 4 wide receivers who likely go to the NFL. I say Cowboys win.

                                                                Florida Vs. Kentucky$$
Upset special! Kentucky is 10-4 in their last 14 games. Even without Dorian Baker they have weapons. Coach Stoops have them playing with an sense of pride and Stephen Johnson is an underrated QB. Benny Snell will rush fro 100 yards as Kentucky wins.

Streak is Awesome.. World Series Championship better.

                                                    The Cleveland Indians are good.
They have a chance to be good for a long time! The team which is coming off a recent 22 game win streak. Same squad who blew a 3-1 lead in last years World Series. (ouch!) The team who I correctly blogged has one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. {Their 3.36 Era leads baseball}
The tribe are winning with regularity without some of it's best players.
2nd baseman Jason Kipnis has been hurt and ineffective. Outfielder Micheal Brantley is hurt so much you'd think baseball is a collision sport. In order to continue our run I'd actually trade one or both Kipnis and Brantley in the off season. Speaking of trades acquiring Jay Bruce has been a hit!
{no pun) Pitching is a huge component of winning baseball games.
There is no clock in baseball the time of the game is measured when you get the outs.
When you control the hits and outs and when they are made, you more importantly control the score.
Corey Kluber is a Cy Young candidate, 17 wins 2.35 ERA and 252 Strike outs are strong numbers.
The bullpen is strong with Bryan Shaw, {24 holds) Cody Allen, {28 saves) and a have a combined  ERA of 1.73. Yikes! The defense is very good and filled with young players such as Giovanny Urshela who are used similar to the way teams use a closer to end the game.
They have clinched a their division and are fighting for home field advantage throughout the whole postseason. Francisco Lindor is one of the young faces of the league and has set a record for home runs hit by a switch hitting short stop 32.
The tribe have a boat load of young talent, they play with joy, swagger and are strapped with a head coach who is going to roller skate into the Hall of Fame when he retires. The plate is set for them to be good not only for now but for years to come.
As per this year, not even a record breaking winning streak can satisfy the thirst of  winning the World Series. They were too close last year, the attention is all on Cleveland for a change and now is the time for redemption. As a Clevelander the thought of two parades in one year was orgasmic.
We came very close to that in 2016, opportunity is at our door once again.
Streaks and Sportscenter highlights, interviews, record breaking streaks are great.
World Series championship = complete nirvana.

weekend picks/ commentary

MY PICKS SUCKED LAST WEEK

Georgia Bulldogs and Oakland Raiders stopped me from being shutout.
{2 of 6 on my picks}

The Buckeyes have a bad habit of not running the ball and changing who they are in big games. When we won the championship with Tressell we had a running back named Maurice Clarrett. When we did it with Meyer the running back was Ezekiel Elliott. We have two studs in the backfield who didn't get enough touches in the game vs. Oklahoma. {Webber and Dobbins}
We lost a game to MICHIGAN STATE IN 2015, we didn't give Zeke the ball.
Now we must run the table with an inaccurate QB, new offensive coordinator and as I mentioned no alpha dog @ wide receiver.  (I reluctantly picked The Buckeyes last week.}

We will hop back on that horse shortly, my 3 college and 3 Pro picks on the way

1st a few quick sports shout outs:

Shout out to Jemelle Hill, The Cleveland Indians, Terry Francona, Tom Hamilton, Canelo Alvarez and Triple G, Colin Kapernick, Deshawn Watson, The whole MMA, Lamar Jackson, The whole NFL, Sloan Stephens, Terrance Crawford, Keith Thurman and Andre Ward.

BIG 3 PICKS COLLEGE AND PRO

CFL: Clemson vs Louisville$$

Tough one to pick, I just believe in the best player in this game Lamar Jackson. He is a right handed Micheal Vick, I like the trio of junior receivers he throws to. Jaylen Smith has over 300 yards as a receiver in the 1st two games. The Clemson Tigers have a strong D-line, I love Dabo Swinny but the defending champs will have a tough time keeping up with a motivated reigning Heisman winner @ home.

$$Tennessee vs. Florida

Florida has too many missing parts and an inept Offense The Vols pull this one out.

Kansas State vs Vanderbilt $$

Coach Mason's defense will surprise people this year, I'm going with Vandy @ home.

NFL:    $$New England vs. New Orleans
Simply hard to visualize an 0-2 New England, the pats will miss Edleman as the year goes on.
Curious to see if Peterson keeps getting underutilized by the Saints.

               Vikings Vs. Steelers$$
I'm thinking we will see a different Leveon Bell in week 2. I also think we won't see the same Sam Bradford against a tougher defense. Steelers in a close one.

                  $$Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver
I believe the best Offensive line in football will continue to prevail with Ezekiel Elliott in the line up.
Dak Prescott is a bit underrated as a quarterback he does a great job of managing the game while taking appropriate risks. Cowboys win

                                               CANELO ALVAREZ VS GENADY GOLOVKIN

I am picking Golovkin in a blood bath. The first 5 rounds will look like Hagler vs. Hearns.
(please google}
When they tire in the middle rounds to late rounds I believe Triple G will catch him with a one "hitter quitter" and knock him out.
Golovkin wins in a 9th round KO.

BIG 3 COLLEGE & PRO PICKS OF THE WEEK!

                                                                       CFL

                                                      Oklahoma VS. Ohio State $$

I reluctantly pick my Buckeyes, JT Barrett is not terribly accurate, I am not sure who our alfa dog receiver is.  We have Urban Meyer at home with 2 studs at running backs. (Webber and Dobbins)
A very highly touted defensive line at home will prove too much for Baker Mayfield and Oklahoma.

                                                   $$   Georiga VS. Notre Dame

It just seems like they always over rank The fighting Irish. I pick Georgia because they also have a mean two back attack. {chubbs & michel) The Bulldogs have enough talent to push past ND.

                                                           $$ Stanford VS. USC

Simple. If Western Michigan can run on you, Stanford who uses multiple tight end schemes and tough blocking schemes  will run on you.... Stanford will win a close on.

                                                             NFL
                                                   Pitt @ Cle $$

New attitude in Cleveland, I think the new defensive coordinator will surprise NFL fans and the Browns will win in a upset at home.

                                                    $$ Oakland @ Tennessee

This could quietly be the game of the week.  I want above most things for the Raiders to go to the Super before they move to Vegas. Great o-line, love Khalil Mack, and Derek Carr.

                                                      $$ Seattle @ Green Bay

This may be the final stand for the legion of doom. Tough game to pick Aaron Rogers is possibly the best quarterback in the league. Still going with battle tested Seahawks.

                                                        US OPEN WOMEN'S FINAL

$$   Sloan Stephens VS. Madison Keys

Both players are playing great, I am taking Sloan who has nice variety in her game. Much love to US tennis even with out the presence of the great Serena Williams, they are thriving this year.

KYRIE MUCH LOVE!

Kyrie Irving will always have a special place in my heart.

Likely the best most mesmerizing ball handler I've known. The strong propensity to finish @ the rim.
I am a fan of the "Uncle Drew ", commercials....
The biggest reason I will always love and appreciate the man is he made the shot!! MR. CLUTCH!!

YES THE SHOT!
You see I am from Cleveland,Ohio and as a sports fan that entails years of near misses and misery.
The Cardiac kid Browns of the 80's fun team didn't win the big one.
The Bernie Kosar Browns were the Buffalo Bills of the AFC Championship games of the late 80's.
The 90's Cleveland Indians were the most fun team in our history. 0 for two in the World Series.
The Cleveland Cavs, drafted Akron's own Lebron James who "lit the league up like Vegas," took a cast of muck to the NBA Finals, then left us for The Miami Heat years later. (please look at that 2007 Cavs roster yuck!}
Believe it or not I could continue....
Then Lebron returned from Miami, carried us with much more help to 3 straight years of The Nba Finals winning one. {Praise the Lord)
Kyrie Irving is one of the greatest clutch scorers of our current era. Irving with 53 seconds left in the 2016 finals, made the game winning shot that won the Cavs and the city of Cleveland our 1st Championship in 50 years.
Now as you have likely heard Irving requested a trade and has been shipped to to The Boston Celtics.
When he returns to play us on October 17th I will not burn a jersey, I will not boo him, instead I will stand in appreciation for the man who was an important component to us winning our long awaited title.
One final thing, as I mentioned in a previous sports post on this blog, we need young players on the Cavs so his request for a trade has push our organization forward, we were compensated handsomely
for Irving who has helped with our future endeavors by requesting the trade.
So, here's to Kyrie a legendary figure in our Cleveland sports landscape good luck with the Celtics, except against us.

TBE not to me.

I am a  new blogger. this is a new blog.

Jo Jo The Knight the blog will feature sports, life and poetry.

I am calling yet another fighter over rated , except on a grander scale, in our short time.
My 1st piece referred to Mike Tyson as overrated because he never beat a signature fighter.
{maybe Micheal Spinks)
Floyd Meaweather jr. one of the all-time great boxers ever pound per pound.
I don't believe he is The Best Ever.
The destruction  of the late Diego Corrales, {Who incidentally was arguably involved with one of the greatest fights of all time vs. Jose luis castillio ..}stoppage of Rickey Hatton, he beat Delahoya, Alvarez.and Pacquiauo.
The most talented defensive fighter I've ever witnessed and a marketing genius should make or be near any top ten rankings when discussing the best pound per pound fighters, of all-time.
To be known as the best ever, to me means your last fight can't be versus an amateur boxer.
Yes Conner Mcgregor is an MMA Champion.'
Yes he has a boat load of heart.
Yes he put up a reasonable showing against ONE OF boxing's best ever.
However there are too many boxers who worked too hard, have already fought quality boxing opponents that would have been much more of a legacy defining fight than someone who was in their 1st professional bout.
The fight was better than expected but in no way was Floyd's undefeated record in jeopardy,
I will go on to say on that night worthy opponents like Keith Thurman, Danny Garcia, Spence, Canelo Alvarez would have beaten or knocked Floyd out.
Floyd picks his opposition like fruit, he waits until they are ripe to be beaten then  he fights them.
Boxing is a sport filled with risks, we as fans revere those who take risks. (which is why many love knock out artists} Floyd was a careful fighter who to his credit has all his physical faculties in order.
He was a defensive wizard who was also careful with the opponents he picked and when he fought
them. Mayweather's undefeated record is just as much a result of careful choosing of opponents as his superior greatness in the boxing ring.

TOP 10 POUND PER POUND All-Time ACCORDING TO JOJO:

1. Sugar Ray Robinson
2. Muhammad Ali
3. Joe Louis
4. Willie Pep
5. Rocky Marciano
6. Jack Dempsey
7. Jack Johnson
 8. Sugar Ray Leonard
 9. Floyd Mayweather jr.
 10.Marvelous Marvin Hagler
